Canyon High tailback Chris Peery underwent emergency urological surgery Tuesday night and will miss at least the first month of the season, according to Coach Harry Welch.
Peery (6-foot-1, 210 pounds), who rushed for 1,418 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior last season, was recovering at Valley Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday evening after undergoing surgery for a non-football injury in the groin area, a hospital spokeswoman said. Peery was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after complaining of pain since early Saturday.
“He woke up at three in the morning in intense pain,” Welch said. “He rested all day Saturday. He came to school today to register and was worse.”
Welch said that Peery will be lost for “a minimum of a month,” possibly the entire season. “I don’t know,” he said. “Obviously, we’re in shock.”
