NATION IN BRIEF : ALASKA : Ban on Marijuana Qualifies for Ballot

Alaska residents, allowed to possess and smoke marijuana in their homes since 1975, will get a chance to vote for prohibition. A measure that would criminalize adults who use pot in private has gathered enough signatures for a spot on the general election ballot next November, said Linda Edgeworth of the state Division of Elections in Juneau, Alaska. Unless the Legislature outlaws marijuana before then, the issue will go to a statewide vote, she said.
