SAN DIEGO — Al Luginbill, San Diego State University’s head football coach, has agreed to a new three-year contract that runs through the 1992 season.
The pact announced Tuesday amounts to a one-year extension for Luginbill, 42, who had signed a three-year contract before the 1988 season when he was named to replace the fired Denny Stolz. Terms of the new deal were not disclosed.
In his first full season as the Aztecs’ coach, Luginbill’s team posted a 6-5-1 record despite a 0-2-1 start. San Diego State tied for fifth in the nine-team Western Athletic Conference with a 4-3 league mark.
