Pepperdine Falls to Nebraska, 104-100

LINCOLN, Neb. — Clifford Scales scored four of his 22 points in the final 59 seconds as Nebraska held off a Pepperdine rally for a 104-100 victory Saturday night in the championship game of the Ameritas tournament.
Pepperdine, which trailed 52-39, at halftime, closed to 96-95 with 59 seconds left on a three-point basket by Shann Ferch. But Scales made four free-throws down the stretch for the Cornhuskers (3-2).
Ferch, who scored 23 points, including six three-pointers, and Tom Lewis (23 points) were named to the all-tournament team. Geoff Lear had 14 points and Dexter Howard added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Waves (1-2).
Rich King, the tournament’s MVP, had 21 points and seven rebounds, and Chris Cresswell, a transfer from UC Irvine, had 13 for the Huskers.
The game was tied, 35-35, midway through the first half, but Nebraska outscored the Waves, 17-3, to lead at halftime. Pepperdine chipped away at the lead throughout the second half.
