Lee to ‘Do It A Cappella’: After doing the right thing, this time Spike Lee is going to “Do It A Cappella” as the co-host of a TV special by that name with Debbie Allen. The show, which will air on PBS’ “Great Performances” and BBC this spring, will feature a new wave of a cappella vocalists. Lee and Allen wander through the streets of New York, and find these a cappella singers under bridges and in alleys as they showcase the talents of contemporary groups such as the Mint Juleps, Take 6 and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. “Everybody knows about Prince and Madonna, but there’s a lot of great talent out there that needs exposure,” Lee said. Ernest Dickerson, who has worked as director of photography on Lee’s films and went to film school with Lee, will direct the program which will be shot Dec. 18-22 in the streets of Brooklyn.
