Injured All-American Rumeal Robinson watched from the sidelines, but his replacement, Demetrius Calip, scored all of his 11 points in the first half Monday night as No. 6 Michigan beat Chicago State, 84-57, at Ann Arbor, Mich.
Robinson, who was dressed in street clothes, sprained the big toe on his left foot in Saturday’s 113-108 overtime victory over Duke.
Sean Higgins scored 16 points for Michigan (6-1), while Loy Vaught had 15 and Terry Mills added 13.
Gerald Collins scored 12 of his 15 points for Chicago State (1-6) in the second half against Michigan’s reserves.
San Jose St. 70, Texas Christian 69--The Spartans’ victory ended their 21-game losing streak, the longest in the nation.
With two seconds left, San Jose State’s Troy Batiste was fouled while scoring a layup. He then made the free throw that settled the outcome. Batiste scored the Spartans’ final nine points and finished with 17 points.
The Spartans, 1-4 this season, had not won since they beat Big West Conference opponent Pacific last Jan. 3.
Tom Desiano added 15 points for San Jose State.
Georgia Tech 101, North Carolina A&T; 87--Brian Oliver scored 33 points and Dennis Scott 29 as the 15th-ranked Yellow Jackets got past the Aggies at Atlanta.
Georgia Tech (4-0) led by just four points with 5:10 left in the first half before Oliver’s rebound basket sparked a 15-point run.
American University 69, Santa Clara 54--Brock Wortman and Chris Rooney combined for 28 points in the second half as the Eagles beat the Broncos at Washington.
Rooney, a freshman, had 13 of his 17 points in the second half, when Wortman had 15 of a career-high 21.
Washington State 81, Eastern Washington 42--Darryl Woods scored 15 points and the Cougars held the Eagles to 15 points in the first half en route to victory at Pullman, Wash.
Washington State (6-3) scored 14 straight points and had a 28-15 lead at halftime. Then the Cougars scored the first seven points of the second half.
