Politics of Abortion

I agree with Gov. George Deukmejian (“Deukmejian Hits Politics of Abortion,” Part A, Dec. 17) in admonishing turncoat Republicans who adopt “more fashionable” positions on the abortion issue simply to get reelected.
But I strongly disagree with his assertion that the moral issue of abortion “ . . . should not be exploited for political gain.” When a moral issue is subjugated by unjust laws, the moral issue becomes a political issue, and as such, becomes fair game to be exploited in any recognized acceptable manner.
