H. F. Ahmanson & Co.: The parent of Home Savings of America and the Bowery Savings Bank reported net income for 1989 of $193.9 million, down 4% from 1988. The Los Angeles-based firm said the decline reflected a 47% decrease in after-tax income from loan sales and real estate operations, together with a higher effective tax rate.
