SEAL BEACH : Freeway Sound Wall OKd for Rossmoor

After a dozen years of waiting, residents of the Rossmoor area near Seal Beach will be getting a much-sought freeway sound wall.

The Orange County Transportation Commission voted Monday to appropriate $2 million for the project, which is scheduled to go out for construction bids in July if details about adjacent landscaping and state reimbursement of the monies advanced by the agency are worked out.

The wall will be built between homes and the San Gabriel River Freeway. Rossmoor is an unincorporated area between Seal Beach and Los Alamitos, on the border with Los Angeles County.

The commission Monday also added a “missing” Seal Beach sound wall to its list of high-priority, but unfunded, sound-wall projects.

The Seal Beach sound wall would be built along the San Diego Freeway between Seal Beach Boulevard and the Garden Grove Freeway, near Leisure World Seal Beach.

The project had been left off of previous project lists in the confusion occurring when Orange County’s Caltrans district was carved out of the district that serves Los Angeles County, officials said.

The Transportation Commission also voted Monday to select three other sound-wall projects for design work. They are:

* The Riverside Freeway, from Placentia Avenue to Sunkist Street in Anaheim.

* The Riverside Freeway, from Euclid to 0.2 mile west of Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim.

* The Costa Mesa Freeway, from Taft Avenue to Meats Avenue in Orange.
