RAIN CHECK: Sen. Pete Wilson was a no-show at Thursday’s $1,000-per-couple gubernatorial fund-raiser at Pilar Wayne’s home in Newport Beach. . . . He had flown back to Washington to join the unsuccessful bid to override President Bush’s veto of legislation protecting Chinese students. It’s an issue of “special sensitivity,” said aide Otto Bos, who said the event may be rescheduled.
