WORLD IN BRIEF : ROMANIA : Premier May Fire Defense Minister

Prime Minister Petre Roman agreed to consider firing Romania’s Defense Minister Nicolae Militaru, as demanded by hundreds of officers. Militaru did the bidding of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu for years. Soldiers and more than 1,000 civilian supporters gathered in Victory Square in front of government headquarters and vowed to stay until Militaru is dismissed.
