Angels pitcher Kirk McCaskill avoided an arbitration hearing by signing a one-year contract today.
McCaskill, 28, had a 15-10 record and a personal-best 2.93 earned run average in 32 starts for the Angels last season. He tied Kansas City’s Bret Saberhagen for second in the American League with four shutouts.
Last May 4 in Toronto, McCaskill pitched his second career one-hitter and the 14th in Angels’ history.
McCaskill’s arbitration hearing was scheduled for Monday in New York. He was asking for a 1990 salary of $1,185,000, and the Angels were offering $750,000. The right-hander earned $430,000 last season.
The signing of McCaskill left the Angels with all of their arbitration cases resolved.
