COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Norville’s Triple Propels OCC in Track

Dave Norville won the 100- and 200-meter races and the long jump as Orange Coast College defeated Saddleback, 93-52, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s track and field meet Friday at OCC.
Norville won the 100 in 10.8 seconds, the 200 in 22.2 and the long jump at 19 feet, 11 1/2 inches. OCC’s Jay Benge won the javelin with a throw of 182 1/2 feet.
In women’s Orange Empire Conference track:
Orange Coast 82, Saddleback 53--Dede Pagnanelli won the 400 meters (1:01.5) and the long jump (16.2 feet) for host OCC. Christina Arribas won the 100 meters (12.8) and 200 meters (26.5) and ran the anchor leg on the winning 1,600- and 400-meter relay teams.
In nonconference baseball:
Golden West 15, Hancock 13--Robb Carabba had five hits, including a double and triple, and scored four runs, and Frank Herman had four hits, including a triple, and five RBIs for Golden West (8-1).
Cerritos 8, Cypress 4--Terry Tewell had four hits for host Cypress (10-4).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s swimming:
Grossmont 69, Saddleback 44--Jason Armison won the 500-yard (5:05.34) freestyle and 1,000 free (10:27.75), and Dave Beck won the one- and three-meter diving events for host Saddleback.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:
Grossmont 75, Saddleback 65--Heather Nassar won the 50 freestyle (27.24), the 200 freestyle (2:18.99) and the 50 backstroke (33.30) for host Saddleback.
