A man parachuted Thursday morning from a 36-story building under construction in Century City, adjacent to the Century Plaza, where President George Bush was staying, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Secret Service agents and Los Angeles police confronted the man, later identified as Charles Patrick Sweeney, 47, of Newhall, when he landed in a parking lot.
The man escaped in his car, but not before one agent pumped two shots into his vehicle. Sweeney was arrested at his home and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. He posted $3,000 bail.
