Notes: Huntington Beach solidified its preseason No. 1 ranking, beating El Toro in the finals of the OC Volleyball Championships March 10.
Marina, which started the season unranked, upset Corona del Mar, the preseason’s sixth-ranked team, to move into the Orange County coaches’ poll at No. 5. Corona del Mar does not return a starter from last year’s 4-A championship team.
One of the county’s top newcomers is Estancia sophomore Matt Fuerbringer, who some coaches already say has Division I college potential. Fuerbringer, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker, helped the Eagles’ basketball team win the Southern Section 3-AA title.
Servite and Cypress are fielding first-year teams.
