Manville Corp.: The company reported second-quarter profit of $52.6 million, up 16% from the same period in 1989. Sales for the period were $561 million, off slightly from 1989. Excluding that gain, 1990 second-quarter profit was down 13% from the previous year. The Denver-based manufacturing and natural resources firm cited continued erosion of its construction-related markets and the negative impact of Brazilian economic policies on company operations there.
