NBC Locked Out: NBC News charged Wednesday that its correspondents were not allowed into Iraq in an attempt to censor the network because of past reports on the Iraqi military buildup and use of poison gas. Ted Koppel and Forrest Sawyer of ABC News and Dan Rather of CBS News were granted visas to report from Baghdad. All eventually were asked to leave. Don Browne, executive vice president of NBC News, said that NBC News requested visas to enter Baghdad on Aug. 3, the morning after Iraq invaded Kuwait. After repeated efforts to gain entry, NBC has been denied access to the country. “We can only conclude that we are being censored by the Iraq government,” Browne said.
