LOCAL : Freeway Crashes Leave 2 Dead

A car traveling 90 m.p.h. hit the center divider of the Hollywood Freeway near Alameda Street early today, splitting in half and killing one of its three passengers, authorities said.
Steven Kanemori, 22, of San Gabriel, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:50 a.m. solo accident in downtown Los Angeles. The two other passengers were hospitalized, one with major injuries.
The driver, Won Huh, 21, of Monterey Park, who was not injured, was booked on suspicion of felony drunken driving.
Fifty minutes later on the San Gabriel River Freeway in Baldwin Park, a car driven by Dennis M. Howell, 46, struck a disabled car on the shoulder of the highway, killing its driver.
Howell was taken to a West Covina hospital, where he was booked on suspicion of felony drunken driving and manslaughter.
