El Monte and Glendora voted this week to join the East San Gabriel Valley Integrated Waste Management Joint Powers Authority.
The El Monte City Council appropriated $25,000 to join the group of 17 East San Gabriel Valley cities that have banded together to fulfill the requirements of the California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989.
Glendora Assistant City Manager Keene Willson said Glendora’s cost will be $35,000 to $45,000.
The act requires each of the cities to analyze the solid waste it generates and develop plans for reduction and recycling. By joining forces and hiring a consultant, the cities can save money, El Monte Public Works Director Bob Pinniger said.
