BREA : Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled on Friday
- Share via
Police plan to set up a sobriety checkpoint Friday night on Carbon Canyon Road, officials announced this week.
All eastbound traffic between 8 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday will be stopped at the entrance to Carbon Canyon Regional Park, police said.
Brea police are targeting Carbon Canyon Road because they say it has been the scene of numerous alcohol-related accidents in the past year. During 1989, more than 12% of the collisions on the road involved an alcohol-impaired driver, twice the citywide average of 6%, police said.
In addition to the public announcement, signs will be posted to warn drivers they are approaching a checkpoint, in accordance with a recent state Supreme Court ruling.
