MIRA MONTE : Private Firm Starts Curbside Recycling
- Share via
The first curbside collection of recyclable materials by a private firm in the Ojai Valley began Monday in Mira Monte.
Ojai Rubbish Service Inc. delivered 34-gallon containers last week to 214 homes in the Woodland Avenue area to test public participation.
Residents’ response will determine how the company will offer similar weekly service to its other 4,600 customers in the valley’s unincorporated area, said Gloria Whitcomb, the firm’s recycling coordinator.
The company will collect plastic bottles, aluminum, glass and bundled newspapers.
Participants will receive the service at no charge but will not be paid for the recyclable materials.
Whitcomb said other customers may drop off recyclable materials at the company’s office on Crooked Palm Road.
