Sony to Change CBS Records Name: Sony Corp., which acquired CBS Records Inc. in 1988, plans to change the corporate name of its record company to Sony Music Entertainment Inc. The name change, which takes effect Jan. 1, 1991, won’t affect the company’s domestic record labels, which are Columbia, Epic, Associated and WTG. In a separate move, Sony said it has acquired the Columbia label for international use from EMI. EMI had owned the rights to the name outside the United States, except in Japan and Spain.
