STANTON : New Hours in Effect for Sheriff’s Station

West County sheriff’s investigators will spend more time following up on criminal cases under a new plan approved by the City Council this week, but the plan includes closing the Cedar Street station on Sundays and holidays.
The plan will save the city up to $10,000 a year, Capt. Robert Eason said in a letter to the council. That money will be used to pay investigators for additional hours of working on criminal cases.
He said that few people need clerical assistance on weekends and holidays, and those that do often request information that can be released only with the authorization of someone who works during the week. By restructuring the hours of clerical personnel and shifting some clerical duties now handled by an investigator, the department could gain up to eight hours a day of work on criminal cases.
The new hours are effective immediately. The station is now open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
