Teacher Held on Sex Molestation Charges

A Montebello high school teacher was in jail in lieu of $1 million bail Thursday as police investigate charges he sexually molested male minors.
Harry Christ Manos, 50, a teacher at Schurr High School, was arrested Dec. 21 at his Alhambra home and arraigned in court on three counts, Alhambra police said.
Detectives received a tip that Manos might be sexually involved with juveniles and interviewed one alleged victim--a 17-year-old runaway, who had undergone treatment at a psychiatric hospital, Detective Bruce Dow said.
Dow would not discuss what, if any, evidence was found in a search of Manos’ home. But KCBS, Channel 2, news reported Thursday that police found pornographic videos and photos of young males, as well as photos and magazines depicting torture, castration and other mutilations. KCBS quoted police as saying they also found a jar containing a severed penis and testicles.
Officials at Schurr, where Manos has taught for about 20 years, could not be reached.
