Torrance defeated University, 55-39, in a Division II-AA first-round girls’ basketball game at Torrance Saturday night.
University (12-11) jumped out to an 8-6 lead, but Torrance came back with an 8-0 run. From then on, it was all Torrance.
“We played the way we played all year (inconsistently),” University Coach Doug Sorey said. “As much as you tell the kids to shoot,” he said, it doesn’t always work.
University held Torrance scoreless for almost four minutes and got within 12 points at 47-35 with 4:44 left in the fourth quarter. Then Torrance pulled away.
Torrance (19-7) kept the pressure on the entire game and University turned the ball over 26 times. Tiffany Fujimoto and Tricia Tanaka each had 14 points for Torrance. Christie Loud scored 13 for University.
