Sen. Simpson on CNN

Three of nature’s most loathsome creatures are a maggot feeding on carrion, a rat gorging in a sewer and a politician posturing patriotically.
Attention: Sen. Simpson. Ditto for politically ambitious celebrities. Attention: Charlton Heston.
Neither Simpson or Heston gives the American people credit for much intelligence. Anyone seeing a CNN tape from Baghdad labeled “censored by Iraqi authorities” should be trusted to figure out that the tape will not present a fair or balanced picture.
Yet it’s far better to get a thin, skewed sliver of pictorial truth coming out of Iraq than no truth at all.
Funny, but I trust the sincerity--and courage--of CNN’s Peter Arnett much more than that of Simpson or Heston.
