Former Thrift Chairman Pleads Poverty: Ousted CenTrust Chairman David Paul pleaded with a judge to loosen a legal stranglehold on his money to keep his wife from selling her engagement ring for legal fees, but a freeze on his finances was left in place. The Office of Thrift Supervision has accused Paul of squandering CenTrust deposits on gold plumbing fixtures at his tower headquarters and other luxuries. The federal judge noted that Paul has not complied with his orders to file a financial statement of his assets and a bond to cover CenTrust assets allegedly converted to his personal use.
