A team of San Diego Charger players defeated a team from the city’s news media, 93-73, in a celebrity basketball game to benefit the Adams girls--Christina, Katie, Kelly, Erin and Ashley--who lost their parents two months ago.
The total raised for the Adams children was not immediately known, but Charger owner Alex Spanos donated at least $2,000 simply because of the three-point shooting competitions at halftime.
The game, at the Grossmont College Gym, drew more than 2,000 people. Admission was $5.
Cookie “Chainsaw” Randolph of radio station KGB led the media team with 16 points, and ex-University of San Diego guard Paula Mascari (Chargers Weekly) had 11.
