Seems Everyone’s Been Playing Bike Polo
Polo on bicycles is as old as I am.
In the 1940s, we played every week as teen-agers in the summer resort of Punta del Este, Uruguay.
It was meant to entertain us inexpensively without the use of the polo ponies. We all ended with bruised legs. And the rewards? A bottle of Coca-Cola, the biggest thrill of all at that time.
No, we did not use helmets, and our bikes were old and unglamorous but the only transportation for teen-agers in those days.
