Parking Permit Law Is OKd but Fees Are Yet to Be Decided

The South Gate City Council has given final approval to an overnight street parking ordinance that requires residents to buy a permit or have their vehicles towed.

Fees for permits have not yet been set. The city staff is recommending that an annual permit cost $65, a long-term guest permit be $10 and an overnight guest permit be free. There will be a public hearing on the proposed fees at the Sept. 10 council meeting.

City officials plan to divide South Gate into eight areas and will begin posting parking restriction signs in selected neighborhoods by mid-November, Public Works Department engineer Raymond Pang said.

Residents in each area will be notified as the sign posting takes place and can then request permits. City staff members will inspect a resident’s property to determine parking availability before a permit is issued. Sign posting and issuing of permits will take about a year, Pang estimated.
