An alcohol treatment center for teens, the first of its kind in the county, received final approval from the City Council this week.
The council passed a resolution Tuesday formalizing its preliminary approval of the center earlier this month. The resolution upholds a recommendation by the Planning Commission to allow the recovery home for youths with alcohol problems to operate at 525 N. Parker Ave.
The facility, run by Social Model Recovery Systems Inc., will offer 24-hour supervision and non-medical treatment and counseling for up to 24 youths 12 through 17.
Center officials say the project is the first in the county to focus solely on alcohol-related problems among adolescents and teens and to offer free help to those who can’t afford traditional treatment.
Center officials expect the home will open by mid-November after repairs to the building are completed.
