UCLA Ends Scrimmages on High Note

UCLA engaged in its last major scrimmage Wednesday afternoon at Westwood before the season-opening game Sept. 7 against Brigham Young at the Rose Bowl.
“The pleasing thing is that we have gone through two-a-days with normal hitting, and we haven’t had any surgeries,” Coach Terry Donahue said. “Before, we would have three or four surgeries by now.”
Starting center Aron Gideon sprained his left knee, but preliminary reports indicated that the injury wasn’t serious.
Donahue said his decision wasn’t final, but he has apparently settled on his kickers. Courtney Keyler is the punter; Luis Perez, a transfer from El Camino College, will kick field goals and points after touchdowns and Dominic Sandifer is the kickoff specialist.
