South Pasadena : Emergency Fees May Rise

The City Council will consider raising fees for the Fire Department’s paramedic services by nearly 30% to recover a greater percentage of its cost.
Fire Chief Bart E. Carroll told the council last week that paramedic services operated at a loss of more than $200,000 last year. Expenditures in 1990 topped $303,000, although revenues were about $101,000, Carroll said.
Currently, the Fire Department charges $271.50 for a typical emergency call requiring transportation to a hospital. Carroll suggested that the fee be raised to $350.
The council agreed to consider the proposed fee hikes at its first meeting in November.
