SDSU fell to No. 7 LSU, 15-11, 15-8, 15-11, in the championship of the Sheraton Invitational in Evanston, Ill., despite 11 kills from all-tournament player Gracie Schutt. The Aztecs, who play host to No. 12 Pepperdine on Tuesday, fell to 6-6 while the Tigers moved to 9-0.
Behind the play of all-tournament selection Elizabeth Tan, who had 19 kills for the day, and setter Julie Fabian, UCSD won the Pomona Pitzer Invitational with victories over UC Santa Curz, Pomona Pitzer and Menlo College.
The Tritons (9-2) defeated UCSC, 15-13, 15-2; Pomona Pitzer, 15-7, 15-5 and Menlo College, 15-5, 15-5.
MEN’S SOCCER
San Diego State got two goals apiece from Patrick Merrell and Steve Hesse to score a 6-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills 0. Brian Craft-Negrete and Willie Franklin also scored for the Aztecs (6-0-0).
Sophomore forward Steve Beck from University City High scored one minute and 30 seconds into the second overtime to lift Point Loma Nazarene to its first victory of the season, 1-0, at home over Biola.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
SDSU’s Stacy Hoshmiya scored 31 minutes into the match to help the Aztecs salvage a 1-1 tie against unbeaten Cal State Dominguez Hills.
