NEWPORT BEACH : Vote on Code for Gas Stations Delayed
- Share via
The Planning Commission has postponed a vote on a code amendment to allow service stations in the city to begin operating mini-markets.
The change to the city’s two-decade-old rule against such markets has been solicited by a Texaco station in the city, whose owner wants to start selling snacks and goods other than auto-related products. The owner says the station needs the extra income to cover increasing rents.
Agreeing that the city’s rule was outdated, the city Planning Department staff recommended the change. However, the Planning Commission decided that it wants more time to study the amendment.
The item will go before the commission again on Nov. 2.
