In an apparent attempt to stem secessionist movements, Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic made conciliatory statements about Yugoslavia’s ethnic Albanian and Muslim minorities. Milosevic has led the Serbian fight to retain a central federation in the country, racked by secessionist movements and a six-month war between Serbs and Croats in Croatia. Meanwhile, Yugoslav air force jets mounted fierce raids on the key Croatian city of Karlovac, and fighting raged in central Croatia.
