LOS ANGELES : Trial Set for Suspect Who Brought Girl From Mexico
- Share via
Agustin Ramirez Garcia, 30, on Monday was ordered by Superior Court Judge Elva R. Soper to stand trial April 13 on charges of lewd acts upon a child.
The child, his wife’s 14-year-old sister, was brought to Los Angeles by Ramirez from Mexico in February, and the case was first reported as a kidnaping.
The girl’s brother, Marcelino Benitez, 29, set out to rescue his sister knowing only that Ramirez worked at a restaurant somewhere in Southern California. After searching hundreds of restaurants, Benitez tracked the two down at a barbecue takeout stand east of Inglewood.
The girl has since changed her story and says that she came with her brother-in-law willingly.
Ramirez is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
