Architecture Award: Another local award winner is Banzuelo/Rierson/Duff & Associates. The Anaheim architecture firm placed first in the 1992 Tilt-Up Concrete Assn. Achievement Awards Program--presented by none other than the Tilt-Up Concrete Assn., based in North Carolina.
Indeed, there is an association for everything.
Banzuelo/Rierson/Duff specializes in tilt-up buildings, in which concrete-slab walls are poured in one piece and then lifted into place by a crane. The method is much less time-consuming and expensive than the construction of wood- and steel-frame buildings.
The firm won the award for its high-tech design of a 160,000-square-foot, four-building office complex in Santa Ana.
The company ordinarily doesn’t bother with award contests, said Vice President Tony Banzuelo. So why enter this one?
“For one thing, there was no entry fee,” Banzuelo said with a laugh. “It usually costs thousands of dollars to win yourself an award.”
