The Asian/Pacific American Education Commission of the Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking representatives from the San Fernando Valley to fill four open spots on the 29-member task force.
The commission acts as an advocate for the rights of Asian and Pacific-American students and staff in the district, spokesman Shel Erlich said. About 47,000 of the district’s 640,000 students are Asian, Filipino or Pacific Islanders.
Commissioners serve for two years on a voluntary basis, including attending one evening meeting a month and various school and community functions. Director Carmencita F. Davino said the commission particularly needs representatives--parents, students or other community members--from the East and West Valley.
The application deadline is May 18. Applicants should contact Davino at (213) 625-6796.
