Collins Advances at Lower Trestles

SAN CLEMENTE — Richie Collins of Newport Beach had the highest four-wave total so far in the competition Saturday in the $20,000 Body Glove Surf Bout V at Lower Trestles.
Collins, 23, scored 34.8 out of a possible 40.
Kasey Curtis of San Juan Capistrano was also among the surfers advancing to today’s quarterfinals, which begin at 7:30 a.m.
