Simi Valley Asked to Probe Football Team

Southern Section officials have directed administrators at Simi Valley High to investigate whether the school’s football program has violated section rules.
After receiving a tip from an anonymous phone caller, Bill Clark, the section’s administrator in charge of football, contacted Simi Valley Principal Dave Ellis on Tuesday to ask him to check into possible violations regarding illegal spring practices.
“It was an anonymous call and I passed it along to the principal,” Clark said. “He’s investigating it.”
Additionally, The Times on Wednesday received tips from two anonymous callers, both charging Simi Valley with repeated violations of Southern Section rules.
Simi Valley football Coach Stan Quina declined comment, as did several of his players.
Southern Section football teams are prohibited from holding after-school practices before May 26. News of the inquiry spread quickly among Marmonte League football coaches.
“I just heard a rumor to that effect,” Thousand Oaks Coach Bob Richards said. “It was brought up at a league meeting (Wednesday).”
Clark said the matter will be left to Simi Valley administrators to handle internally unless someone steps forward to document or substantiate that a violation occurred.
Simi Valley finished 7-4 last fall and qualified for the Southern Section Division II playoffs.
