Hampton Ailing: In Paris, jazz great Lionel Hampton has canceled the remainder of his concerts this week to recuperate after becoming ill during a performance, the Theatre Bobino announced Thursday. The 83-year-old vibraphonist and band leader was placed under observation at Cochin Hospital after succumbing Wednesday during a show to a “serious malaise,” the theater said. Doctors ordered him to rest and his concerts scheduled through Saturday were canceled. No details of his illness were released.
