Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien, in the early stage of contract negotiations with the Washington Redskins, has decided to meet with representatives of the Toronto Argonauts, according to the Washington Post.
Rypien will be in Montreal for a personal appearance this weekend and probably will fly to Toronto early next week to meet with Argonaut General Manager Mike McCarthy and perhaps owner Bruce McNall, who last summer lured Raghib (Rocket) Ismail away from the NFL with a four-year, $18-million package.
Rypien won’t get that much, but the Argos probably will offer about $2 million for 1992. The Redskins reportedly are offering a three-year deal that includes a $2.2-million base salary for 1992. Rypien appears to be seeking about $4 million.
