In Huntington Park--where 96 businesses suffered an estimated $2 million in losses during the riots--business and civic leaders Thursday held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and motorcade, hoping to call attention to the city’s recovery efforts.
To attract shoppers back to the area, a motorcade including Mayor Raul Perez, Mayor Pro Tem Ric Loya, Chamber of Commerce President David Rodriguez, three princesses from the city’s Royal Court and a 10-piece mariachi band rode along Pacific Boulevard and Florence Avenue.
The motorcade traveled to Santa Fe and Saturn avenues, where several businesses were destroyed.
