An 82-year-old Ventura bicyclist remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday evening, a day after he received major head injuries when he was struck by a car in the Pierpont neighborhood of Ventura.
The accident occurred about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday as Kelvin Magnus Arthur rode his bicycle east on Pierpont Boulevard approaching Peninsula Street, Ventura Police Cpl. John Turner said.
Arthur drove diagonally across both eastbound lanes when he was struck by a car driven by a Ventura girl and tossed to the pavement, he said.
Neither the girl, whose identity was withheld, nor her companion were injured, and alcohol was not involved, Turner said.
Arthur, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to Ventura County Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. He remained in critical condition late Thursday. “We still have great concern for Mr. Arthur,” a nursing supervisor said.
