MEDALLURGY? When it comes to Olympic medals, Orange County is a bit on the proud side. How about 18 in ‘84? And 9 in ‘88? Ten of those came from three people: Placentia swimmer Janet Evans, and Mission Viejo’s Greg Louganis for diving and Mary Meagher for swimming. Evans is expected to add to her medal collection in Barcelona this week. And with 36 Orange County competitors there, chances seem golden again.

Orange County athletes have produced 27 gold medals in the last two summer Olympics.
1972: 1
1976: 7
1984: 18
1988: 9
