CANYON COUNTRY : Sierra Highway Route to Be Closed Until Mid-March

The 8,000 drivers who use Sierra Highway will have to settle into alternate routes until at least March 15, county public works officials said Wednesday.
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved repairing the 12-mile stretch north of Sand Canyon Road, which includes two badly storm-damaged bridges. County officials estimated that the road sustained about $2.6 million in damages from recent rains, money that has not yet been allocated.
County officials said they hope to recoup most of the money from the federal government, which declared Los Angeles County a disaster area earlier this week. Meanwhile, commuters have been diverted to the Antelope Valley Freeway and Soledad Canyon Road.
