Steel Price to Rise 5%: The nation’s major steelmakers said they plan to boost some steel prices by as much as 5%, effective July 4. Chicago-based Inland Steel Industries, one of the largest U.S. steel producers, said it started the latest round of price hikes March 1, as it began to inform customers that it planned to raise prices of all of its sheet steel by $20 per ton. USX-U.S. Steel Group and LTV Steel Corp. informed customers of similar price increases days after Inland’s announcement.
