ANAHEIM — A suspected armed burglar was holed up in an Anaheim apartment late Saturday as a tactical team and other police officers surrounded the complex and ordered neighbors to evacuate.
Authorities believed that a residential burglary had been taking place at the Villa Rio Vista apartments on South Rio Vista Street and that the suspected burglar may have been holding a hostage because they heard other voices and banging inside the apartment.
A neighbor called police about 10 p.m. to say that someone had been pounding on an apartment door and then forced his way inside, Sgt. Kirt Robertson said.
About 15 officers were at the scene shortly before midnight Saturday, and hostage negotiators were preparing to make contact with the suspect inside. It wasn’t known whether anybody had been injured.
