Bolsa Grande, Sr.
Football / Quarterback
Friday night, Santiago decided to try to stop Baughman with the blitz, but Bolsa Grande Coach Gary Stephens said that strategy doesn’t usually work against the strong-armed quarterback. “He doesn’t get rattled,” Stephens said. “He’s not one of those nervous-feet-type quarterbacks.” However, Baughman sure can worry those defensive backs, and Friday he completed 17 of 29 passes for 379 yards and five touchdowns in Bolsa Grande’s 39-28 victory. He completed touchdown passes of 70, 81, 34, 10 and 53 yards.
Other notables:
* Mark Fausto, Santa Ana, passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns and intercepted a pass to preserve the Saints’ 19-13 victory over Ocean View.
* Jaime Martinez, Orange, won the seeded race of the Orange County cross-country championships, finishing three miles in 15:02.
* Juan Medrano, Juan Zargoza and Federico Duran, Santa Ana, finished fifth, sixth and eighth to lead their team to the county cross-country title.
* Binh Tran, Costa Mesa, rushed 18 times for 317 yards, including touchdowns runs of 63, 76, 27 and 96 yards, in a 58-20 victory over Laguna Beach.
